Building Department

The Building Department is responsible for building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical permitting through the administration of the State of Michigan Building Codes. The purpose of these codes is to establish a minimum standard protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the general public.

In addition, the Building Department is also responsible for soil erosion permitting through the administration of the Clinton County Soil Erosion and Sedimentation (SESC) Ordinance. The purpose of this ordinance is to maintain soil, preventing any sediment contamination of the Waters of the State or neighboring property. Link to SESC page

The Building Department provides Building permitting for 13 General Law Townships and the cities/villages within them. Soil Erosion permitting, for all 16 Townships and the cities/villages within them.

How To Apply For A Permit

All applications, plans, and supporting documents need to be sent to the Building Department for review and processing.

Application materials can be sent in by email, in person, or mail. The most efficient way is through email.

Please expect building permit review and processing to take up to 2 weeks with complete applications/plans.

BS&A Online Permits

You may apply and pay online for your permits. Online building permits are for roofing, siding, or windows only.
